no real reason not to , but there is a wealth of infomation available to type1 owners about turbo's and lot's of companies cb,staggs etc that can sell you and advise you on what would work best for you , ok the exhaust may have to be custom for type 4 but the rest will be off the shelf ,the eaton will have to have brackets, pulleys , drive belts and other custom parts to make it fit on the engine itself , then there is the small matter of tuning the setup , i am guessing this is such an uncommon setup on an a/c motor that the info on it will be limited .But don't let this put you off a supercharged 914 would be coool and interesting project to undertake , i have seen a couple of lads on the aussie vdubber forums have supercharged there cars so maybe you could get some pointers off them
