Zen, how does it feel driving a Rat 2316cc engine?

Zen,

Now that you have had that 2316cc engine for a while, how does it feel to drive it? Give us a critique. Have you had it in traffic yet?

Randy

Zen, you around man????

I literally had the same engine in my 914, and it was very tame in traffic and could be short shifted at 3K with no sweat. Zen's combo has even more low end grunt and when I drove it that was plenty for his bug thats about 600 pounds lighter than my fully trimmed 914....

Just because the engine is more highly tuned and revs higher doesn't mean it lacks anything down low. Thats the nice thing about a TIV- the torque is always there, no matter what. The air speed(velocity) of the head combo i use for this engine is very high, and with the shorter rod and faster piston speed it winds up very nice....

I'll let Zen explain how he drives it and what he likes..

BTW, my newest version of it will top out at around 200 ponies, totally street drivable. It'll be done in about a month..

This one os tuned only for 914 owners. I probably won't offer this engine tuned for a Bug application because of the way it produces power....

This engine has 2.0 Vanagon heads with 2.0 914 plug locations, 7mm stemmed valves, super lioght retainers, and some valve springs derived from another very demanding application.

So in other words this one ain't cheap... The test engine has Nickies :-)

11,000.00 is a good start for this puppy... The heads are around 2,200.00 alone!

Its quite a bit more than a "standard " engine from me..

i'm around...kind of. still been dealing with the family situation and a ton of work. been pretty slammed. need to talk with you this week though Jake about our previous email string.

on the engine...pretty damn awesome. i still have really only had it out in my neighborhood as i have not had time to correct my rear ride height (1.5" clearance at the moment). power is everywhere. no requirement for high revs. it outperforms my 951 going up hills and will kill it 0-60...the rest is all 951 though. no heavy traffic yet, but this was not built as a daily driver. stage 1 clutch and copperhead disc leave you waiting for a couple of car lengths before moving forward. i have yet to really launch it. i have only done some half-hearted ones.

THE POWER IS JUST PLAIN SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
