Anybody here know about porsche 914s??
I just came back from H20, a watercooled VW show in Maryland, and I realized one thing. I absolutely LOVE the sound of a VR6 with an open intake. So much, that i'd be willing to build another car just for the sound, and descent highway performance. I was thinking of doing a vr6 in a ghia, similar to volkdent's 1.8t mid mount project, but then I realized that people stick 350 Chevy V8s in the middle of 914s all day long.
Re:Transmissions, what kind of trans does the 914 come with, and what type of trans could it be replaced with if the gearing, and stability isn't enough for say, 300 hp?

914's have a 901 transaxle. renegadehybrids.com should have quite a bit of info about what you can or can't do. This should be a doable swap I would think. The VR6 intake "bellow" is certainly a sweet sound.

914 trans are pretty flexible when it comes to gearing.. so if you are handy you can open her up and change things around..
Regarding 300 HP, its like hit or miss.. depends on driving and application.. Plenty of HP N/A V8 powered 914 running around.. check 914club and 914world or pelican forums.. good info there.. If you are dragging might not hold up to long.. Alex

Theres also a place in LA (los angeles) called Renegade Hybrids.
They do all kinds of 914 conversions. V8, Mazda, Subaru, all the fun stuff to dream about.
