tranny leaking oil ?

Now that the engine is in, it appears that the tranny started leaking oil.
Since the car has the back on ramps, the oil is running forward and is dripping
on the floor through a hole in the tunnel, right under the shift coupler.

I took a look at it and it appears that the only spot where it could be leaking is where the shiftrod enters the tranny.
Should I be worried ? The car hasn't run for about a year, and has been in this (tilted) position all the time.

Can it be that it is just a dry seal which started to leak a bit now that the weight of the engine is on the tranny ?

Thanks,

Rob.

Rob- when the car was tilted forward did you fill the trans with oil? To check your oil level, put the car on 4 jackstands, but make it level. then pull out the fill plug on the side of the transaxle. if oil runs out, just let it flow till it stops. It was overfull. If no oil comes out, put your finger in the hole. the oil should be just up to the fill hole. The only other alternative is either a leaking nose cone seal, or a shift rod selector shaft seal. this is way up in the car but you might be able to get to it under the back seat access plate where the shift coupler is. :agree:

Thanks Cooter,

No the tranny has not been refilled yet, that one is still on my list.
I'm affraid the extra weight of the sube engine messed up the seal...

I guess I'll find out if I ever get the thing running

Rob.
