Question for VW Watercooled guys
Does anybody here have access to an '84 GTI ?
On the radiator there's a small extra outlet. I assume this is for the overflow tank ? The thing that I don't get is that it's a pressurized system, so would't it just blow out all the coolant into the overflow tank ? Rob. |

The small pipe bleeds back into the top of the header tank to bleed any air bubbles out of the system. This header tank is pressurised as well, and feeds back into the main coolant system. The small size of the pipe means that only a small flow goes back into the tank, while the bulk of the coolant circulates around the main coolant route.
I use this system on my Wasserboxer beetle, and it gets the air out of the system really well.
