Narrowing Porsche wheels

Hello guys,

Recently I bought some 18" hollow spoke wheels for my 1303 GL.
It was from a 996 and fronts are 7.5 x 18 ET 40 and rears are 10 (!) x 18 ET 65.The rears are just "too wide" for me and I will plan to narrow them...The question is : what is you personal opinion ?
9" , 8.5" , 8" , 7.5" ???

Waiting for YOUR REPLIES !

Well, if the wheel shop knows what they're doing, then I say 8"/8.5" is safe for stock or modestly widened fenders.

If I were you, I'd look for a pair of front wheels and use them at the rear. That way you don't have to chance screwing up a good set of wheels. www.wheelenhancement.com can partially trade your wheels for the 7.5's.

Edit: Just noticed you're in Greece. You can probably forget Wheel Enhancement. I'd still look for a pair of front wheels, though.

Hello Mike!

Well, the wheel shop is the best in Greece.
They use CNC to narrow them.
7.5" all around it is not my favourite choice...
The question is : 8.5" or 8" ?

Rgds,

Stock fenders? Widened fenders? What trailing arms?

Personally, I am going to run 17x8.5" wheels, et50. Stock trailing arms, drums and 1" spacer. I also have 1 1/4" widened fenders. It's a little tight, but do-able. 8's are safer to fit, but 8.5's can be done.

Oh, if it matters, i'll be using a 245-45-17 tire. Maybe that'll help you figure something out.

Stock fenders at the moment 1986 951 aluminium trailing arms...
If it is required I will upgrade to wider but I want to narrow the wheels first and after that to make my measurements...

I think about 215/35/18 and 245/40/18...

Q : 9",8.5",8" (width of the rear wheels) ???

Rgds,

Jim,

If it is possible (not sure what stage your car is at) take your car down the the machinist with the wheels, and measure the clearance that is needed for the wheels to fit. Personally I would prefer to stick as wide a rim as possible under the guards.
cheers

Guys,

Finally I was narrow them for about 1.5"...
So 7.5 with 215/35 fronts and 8.5 with 245/40 rears...

Rgds,
