Got a little idea concerning brake conversion - Will it work?

I'm going to get some bigger brakes, but I wan't to avoid porsche, as they are to expensive compared to performance in my opinion.

But this idea should work on most brakes I guess.

To cut the the chase:

I thought about simply cutting away everything but the hat itself from the original bug disc, redrilling it to the bolt pattern of the brake discs you are converting to, then simply place the new disc on top of the hat of the old bug disc.

Of course, one still has to make an adapter for the caliper, but that's quite a small challenge compared to the spindle machining, and besides, spindle machining won't work for most conversions either.

I myself planned on using Volvo 240 brakes, as these are for one dirt cheap (about 50$ for complete set used), and they are approved for up to 220hp in that heavy piece of steel.

Something similar can be done to the rear, redrilling the drums++, but here caliper attachment will be more of an issue I guess.

I know this thing has been done to the rear, but do you think it will work up front?

I think www.vdubcustoms.com uses cut down drums for one of their brake conversion kits. Check out their website to see what they have available. I don't have any experiance with the Volvo calipers but I can say that the 2nd and 3rd generation Mazda RX-7's have nice 4 pot calipers that I have seen on a few brake conversion kits. You might be able to redrill some 944 rear hubs to whatever bolt patttern you need. As long as the rotor you use is close to the same diameter and thickness as the (944) rotor you might be able to use the 944 rear calipers and mounting brackets. The 944 single pot calipers are cheap to buy and easy to rebuild as long as you have the patience for the little plastic spacers in the rear calipers.
