Finally a starting point, my engine.

I just got an engine cheap from a guy in town that deals in VW stuff alot. I is a type IV engine # EA028279 with one 021-101-371J and one 021-101-371Q head. Now what? I believe I am going to try the Cali conversion for the time being but I need to look for engine internals first.

The engine had one head off and the cylinders looked good, so maybe it is in OK shape. Everyhing turns with no stops or tight spots. Were is a good place to get parts and should I try to bump it to a 2.0 by finding the heads etc?
