gearbox stiffening???
Bought a 2,4 (160 bhp) T4 motor for my 1979 "vert". For this moment i want to keep my standard gearbox till I have saved some money to go a step further. Are there things to do to stiffen my standard gearbox. Help welcome. :silly:

Brace your frame horns either with the Käfer Cup Brace or with one of its copies. Make sure the tranny and shifter bushings are still good.
Hmmm what else..........take it easy on your tranny ![]() Alex |

Hi Stuart,
Congrets! Making sure the engine is hung-up properly is key for now, since properly strengthening the box requires disassembly. At least get a rear engine support bar and/or the brace. Any more data on the engine would be nice! Who did you buy it from? Is it a used or new engine? Thanks, Walter |

some specs
I've bought the motor finally from Klaus in Germany. After sending a lot of e-mails to the different tuners only Klaus and Hot Rod gave a good answer to my questions. The others didn't give a answer or just an answer like "yes we sell engines".
Klaus is not cheap but I visited his workshop/shop last saterday and he took plenty of time for showing his craftsmanship and shop etc. He has a whole range of parts designed by him fot the T4. Some specs from the new engine are 71 x 103 mm, 44 IDF, 44 x 38 valves with heads that are ported etc. Mild cam as this is not a high rev's engine. Stainless steel muffler. Torque is 220 at 3000 rpm. |

You will be happy with your Klaus motor.
Great tuner with lots of attention to detail. Alex |

All you need to do to your trans is put a better differential in it. At a minimum use one of the cheap aftermarket superdiffs. Better yet, step up to a ZF limited slip diff.
