				Stock Alternator? Make upgrades? Porsche?

I'm looking to get a 72 SB currently stock. Plans for a motor of some kind. Rotory mabey.. but if I got a Type 4 with upright cooling I'm curious about the factory alternator. I've got a sub from my old car I'd want in my SB a 12" Pioneer TS-W304C powered by a USX-2100 that's got a 35A blade fuse. (300 Watt) can the elecrical system handle something like that? I could sell it and get something smaller. Or do they make bigger alts?

you can get a bosch alt. in 75 and 95 amp. The stock al82n is 55amp.

If end up running a Type 1 engine or a Type IV with upright conversion stay away from generators, they absolutely suck for powering a system.

Did the SB's even have generators? Are they 6 volt or 12?

71 and 72 Supers had Gen. they went to an alt. with external regulator in 73 then an alt. with internal regulator in 74.

On my '72 1302 I converted to a internally regulated alternator long ago, and tossed the stock voltage regulator...excess weight.

Stock Type 1 style alternators come in 55 amp, 75 amp and 95 amp. They will work with any type 1 shroud or a DTM shroud for type 1 or type 4.

Porsche alternators must be used with a 911 style shroud. I don't know all the amperage ratings of the Porsche alternators.

I have asked this question on the typ4rum too, but can I use my T1 regulator (my T1 alternator is 50A) with a 35A alternator on a porsche fan unit? Will the alternator still charge correctly? Or will I have to get another regulator suitable for the 35A output? I would love to use the original regulator as that would be neat, and would save me having to buy another...
