Question brakes: ghia v. golf

Okay, I am reasonably sure I am down to two choices with brakes. I have read all about the Porsche possibilities and for one reason or another none are in my final cut. (My wanting a VW 5x100 bolt pattern is one reason.)

I have two North American choices. Choice A uses rotors and calipers from a '96-'98 GTI VR6. The hubs are manufactured from stock Beetle drums. Disks, pads and calipers are from a MkIV Golf. (I know calipers are listed twice and I'm pretty sure '96-'98 GTIs are MkIIIs, but that is what is said.) Brake hoses and disks are not included with this kit.

Choice B removes the drum, shoes and backing plate assembly from the original spindle (which is retained), and has special billet adaptors bolted onto the spindle to mount the caliper. All parts supplied with this kit are stock Ghia items.

Now, I can imagine without knowing the actual sizes of these choices that A will be greater than B.

Given A is several hundred dollars more than B when considering the added parts that will also be needed and adding rear disks to both options (and even more money will be required if billets are used for the fronts on A), is it worth it?

Right now, my '71 Super (1302) is stock and I don't drive it over 70 MPH. There will be an engine upgrade some day and driving 85 will not be out of the question. Given a stock '71 is 1911 pounds, do I really need GTI brakes?

(I have no idea what the final weight of my '71 will be when it is all said and done. It is certainly less than my newer water-cooled cousins.)

(Also, I am not a maniac driver. I don't drive 85-90 all the stinking time. I almost never get tickets. And the few accidents I have had were never my fault. I just think most speed limits are arbitrary.)
