Klaus does not answer emails from the United States. He does not sell to the United States. I doubt he will sell to you either, but best bet would be to call on the telephone and talk to his son. The German tuners even find him hard to deal with. But not impossible.
Thanks, and good luck... Randy

Hr. Klaus might prefer to sell a fantastic T4 engine complete with 911 cooling that could be the ultimate T4 into Bug conversion.
I cannot imagine how much it would cost to find out if his stuff is as amazing as it looks. Those Magnesium carb boxes look like a great way to modify an old T1 case Matt |

I just got my Klaus shroud Friday. I will try to post pictures this weekend.
Looks real nice, as predicted nothing to the shroud, but the metal work is nice. Overall seems nice but overpriced. Wish I could tell you how much it cost me, but after dealing with this whole Alex engine deal, Oliver Knuf doing some case work, etc. it became way too complicated. A deal that probably should be avoided unless Klaus decides to play ball in the US. Not likely at this point. Thanks, Randy

I made a post here, it duplicated itself somehow and when I deleted one it deleted both but...
Gerald Klaus sent me a VERY nice email about my shroud and offered technical assistance on installation. He also suggested I use their RSK lower cooling system with it. I am waiting for a response to my return email. I am very hopeful the Klaus company will decide to sell in the US/North America. It is obvious to me that they are reading GermanLook, so if you are interested in any of their T4 goodies, now is the time to speak up. I am very happy about what I received. The quality of the metal work around the fan is great, so I would imagine their other metal work would be perfect also. I think their parts could be a tremendous option for the US T4 community. I will take some pictures of the Klaus shroud next to the FAT unit this week. But as far as shroud pictures go there already is a black Klaus shroud in the engine picture gallery. The curiosity about the internals are misplaced as there is only a small block mounted deflector for airflow and the rest of the magic is by the design and contours of the shroud itself. This deflector is prominent on the Klaus website. So to visualize the flow one must look at the external design. No magic vanes inside. I would imagine the engine we are assembling will put it to the test... Thanks, Randy

Hey Jake,
I will be filming nights this week making rain, so supposedly sleeping days. About the only online stuff I am looking at is GL forum so fire away with the questions here. I will post those pictures soon, just been busy and the camera went dead at the shop the other day... (Sorry about the using the word "rain" for all of those on the SE coast of the US. Hope everyone there on GL is OK) Thanks, Randy

Another forum member here (Stuart) has bought a complete 2366cc type 4 engine from Klaus. I have seen the engine, but could not look past the fan. He did report that inside his shroud there are some sort of extra (metal) deflectors per cylinder at the heads. So there is probably more to it and this may be due to the fact that he bought a complete engine which is dyno tuned and tested by Rolf Klaus. He has not driven it yet because the car is not quite finished I believe. Greetings, Walter |

Hey Wally,
His engine probably has the RSK cylinder cooling shrouds that I do not have yet. Air is ducted by hose from both sides of the shroud to the bottom of the cylinders. Is this what he has? You never know maybe I have the "Export" version of the system, generation 1 or 2 and not 3... Thanks, Randy

Hey Wally,
I am waiting for the price from Klaus on purchasing the RSK cooling and some of the magnesium parts. We talked about his new billet cylinder heads but it may be too soon to anticipate delivery and I need to get going. Thanks, Randy

klaus shroud
I recently got an e-mail from Rolf Klaus about his shrouds. Super RSI if i am not mistaken you may have a stage ll shroud he say's that stage 1 & 2 are for sale but stage 3 you get that with a complete engine. Are you going to post pictures and let us know of the performance of this engine when it's done. On the issue of pricing of shroud and some parts here is what i got from Rolf.
Fan Ring - 168 euro. Backside cooling - 180 euro. Fan case ll - 198 euro. Spannband - 69 euro. Last edited by Bad bug; October 1st 2004 at 08:49. |

Just to recap my deal with Power Tuning, they charged me $ 1,750. to machine the case (said it was about a $100. charge), buy the Klaus shroud and ship it to Texas. Like I said the Klaus direct price was just a bit better! And this transaction from the time I bought the case and parts from Alex to the time it hit my door was almost a year. I am awaiting my RSK system from Klaus now and then on to building.
Thanks, Randy
