I know you said T1 engine and not T4 engine but the only info I ever saw was at Tuna's site about the T4. Look at the bottom of this link. It includes who to contact if you still want to go through with it.
If you want function first, consider getting the DTM for a T1 from Raby's Aircooled Technology.

Oh please..!
The horizontal set-up for type 1 has been made by Riechert as well, but I have never seen one for myself. Both pics you posted are type 4 engines if I saw it correctly. The first pic, please pay attention Oasis, is of a type4 engine that does 11,8 seconds in the quarter mile, and his horizontal Riechert set-up and same engine are in his GSR for over 25 years now!! That 1/4 mile time has been run WITH that horizontal set-up in place and in a heavy curved window superbeetle (1303 over here) time and time again (DasDrag Day, EBI, etc)!! So please spare me the B*llsh*t of 'if you want functionality'... These set-ups are run since the mid-seventies and no engine ever suffered a break down because of it, on the contrary! Walter |

Nope, there WAS a kit. Due to the lesser interest in the beetle the last decade or so, the kit has not been continued. You would have to find a used one.
Downside is.was also that they were very, very expensive. I don't know what is better as there are many definitions on the elements of 'better' and I won't go into that discussion anymore. Each to his own and I have no commercial interests at all. I just completed mine set-up. Its on a type 4 engine though: |

Now now now ... let's not get nasty.
I said that. Your apology is accepted. Quote:
Personally, I don't like the bend the belt has to make -- especially when the first words out of anybody's mouth of what people should take along on a trip with an air-cooled is a spare belt. That bend looks like an accident waiting to happen. If you want to get all bent out of shape, go right ahead. Too bad. I have enjoyed your posts (this one aside) over the years and I admire your cars. I would rather you disagree by just disagreeing but I am just one person, and a fairly insignificant one at that. Hopefully, you can dig up a picture of a Type I with a horizontal fan. Surely with 25 years of 100% success, one must exist. In the meantime, I still like you.

I was surfing the net for websites about beetles, so I ran ito this:
http://www.riechertmotorentechnik.de/ If you press deutshe seiten, - luftfilter axial bla bla - axial kuhlluft geblase, you should find pictures, specs, schematics and prices of a Porsche horizontal cooling system designed for type1 engines. Hope that will help. |

I had a Chevy corvair, and it came from the factory with the horizontal fan, just like the pictured setups. Throwing belts is NOT a problem, it doesn't happen with a quality belt.

not sure if the link that Xellex provided is the same as where typ4boy works but the one in the link is about $1700 US it includes everything
I wish I could run one just for the coolness factor but the A/C would not work with it

Any other leads for a T1?
LAP says they only sell T4 setups. No type1. Found these clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv5G0atfKKo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XvtF...eature=related
