Classic GL tuning: 2,7 Type 4
Well, because of all this Suby engine talk going on (looks almost like the conversion forum here), I thought it would be appropiate to show you the beginning of my next build-up: a 103x80 aircooled type 4 engine with classic parts and some high tech new developments used as well:
![]() Engine uses a set of unused (NOS if you like) Oettinger/Mahle Nikasil cylinders and forged mahle pistons, an old but original 80mm Oettinger (=Okrasa) forged counterweighted crank with custom 5,7" rods, 914 2,0 heads, reworked in the 'apfelbeck bat-cave' with 46x40 valves, unwelded. Type 1 ceramic cam followers and a custom grind split-duration and - lift cam. Induction is DTA EFI with 48mm Jenvey Thr.-bodys and exhaust will be a custom 4-2-1 system. Updates as they occur Best regards, Walter |

Well, the above ain't cheap. You have to love the features and charm a lot of such a big N/A All Motor to go to these lengths
![]() Otherwise, all other Hp-increasing possibilities are usually more hp per $. Personally, I just love it, but thats just me

That is my dream engine Wally. A very cool parts collection you have for it.
Your Beetle is PURE GL, if I may say so.. I look forward to following this build-up. :agree: Matt

Thanks Matt, I especially appreciate it coming from you
After all, I do need a potent engine to perform a sub-10 minute lap on the 'Ring' before you do it Quote:
I like to see the so-called GL 'movement' as German-Style, not german LOOK, since I didn't build the car to create a certain 'look', but to perform a certain task. Effectiveness of the mods is usually all I'am after, not necessarily how it looks...I really really don't want to be associated to the Cal -Look, Rat -Look, and all the other 'looks', where people indeed are focussed on how it looks Thanks, I won't disappoint you, I'am sure. All I am doing now is save up for a nice oil pump. I just sorta found out that the Autocraft 2-stage pump that I fancied more than likely is just made for a VW Type 1 case, so it should fit a typ 4 case just as well nicely. Thanks, Walter |

Quote:
be carefull with a pump made for a type1 as you have to machine a hell of a lot of the back of the housing and shorten the drive shaft, and you might find that it still hits the cam bolts the pump i use is from stateside tuning in the uk,bolts stright in and works, designed from the start for a type4. cheers rob
