from what I know is in the design of the motor itself. The type 1 motor is a solid piece, split into two halves lengthwise. The rotary motor is split into 5 pieces plit cross wise. so just like the VW motor if you hung it from a cylinder head, you'll put undue stress on the motor, which will start to leak oil, then it will start damaging theinternals. If Mazda put mounts on it,... well it's probably for a reason. I personally would rather have the motor locked in place firmly, than have it come apart, warp, or break due to improper support. You can drive a V-8 around without the motor mounts hooked up too. But as soon as the right conditions occur, then bam!
