raise the tranny? rasie the framehead? ........

why?! if youre planning to do both conversions why not just use the age old tried and tested method of channelling the body?!?! that way you have a totally stock pan, which is after all the whole point of the excersise you guys are discussing.

with a channelled body, the only thing you have to do to the pan is twist the steering box on the beam to account for the shallower angle the column will sit at.. all the other mods are in the body, chop out the channels, raise the front and rear body mounts, raise the bulkheads... steering column angle will be the most taxing thing to work out. yeah its a lot of sheet metal work, but lets face it.. who has built a car and hasnt had to chop the body to pieces anyway, even if its a stock resto?! the body on my bug is largely stock, and it was still cut down to the inner shell and roof, then new panels added...
