914 rear brakes

so far nobody has been able to answer this question will 914 rear discs fit on a 72 super beetle & if not why ??

I have a 72 Super Beetle and 74 914. The rear control arms are very different design and the rear caliper true is a 2 pot but it is pain in the butt to work on and very tiny. Most of the peeps on here including myself are all about the 944 stuff cause as far as your Supa goes the entire 944 rear control arm is bolt on and from my experience inexpensive($100 bought me the entire rear suspension/brakes from a '86) so I think thats why.
I more thing 914's use discs not rotors like on 44's.

83-85.5 use the single pot calipers with steel control arms(they are the same control arms as bug IRS, little more internal reforcement and different bushings for mounting to pan but other wise the same )
85.5-86 on the NA models of 944 the calipers are the same single pot sliders but the control arms are now sick alloy arms instead of steel(the bushing still needs to be replaced and these alloy arms will widen your track 3/4" on each side, but on a Super Beetle the front wheels stick out further than the rear wheels so that will fix it). On the turbo models they have 4 pot Brembos, very nice set up.
87 up same deal with the calipers but Porsche widened the alloy arms so now 3" wider on each side.
Its up to you which way you want to go all the rear set ups up above are over kill from wut I hear. If you look under the tech articles there are a couple on brakes, read them cause you got to do the front bigger then the rear, no Ghia brakes on the front and 944 in the back. Good luck!

The 914 suspension is simular to the 911 and these brakes don't bolt up as with the 944 due to the fact that the 924/944 suspension was based on the Super Beetle. Supa Ninja posted it well and more info can also be found on the SBO! site.

I don't want to use the arm just the brakes I don't have access to a 914 or I would mock up a set I want to know will the rotor slice on the axle & can I bolt up the caliper somehow. any info is helpful.

Just take a look at the rear disc kit (for the Bug) sold by American retailers, I do believe it uses the 914 discs and calipers with a custom made bracket. Although I've never really looked into that kit because it costs more than the 944 conversion and is half the brakes plus fabricated parts.

Make your own, like i did.

914 discs bolted over T3 rear hub carriers (machined down to fit inside the 914 disc). Make your own caliper brackets that bolt up to carry whatever caliper you want - i used Mk3 Golf GTI). Make your own Hybrid handbrake cables using Golf/Passat? & Beetle cables

You can't use the 914 hub carrier as it is different splines to the Beetle.
