A good affordable exhaust system is a must for all us TYPE-IV converts. I'll go down to A-1 next week and check it out.

Zen thanks..
this is so exciting.. I wish I had a donor car to lend ![]() General question? Why has it been so difficult to make an exhaust for these darn TIV conversions. Is it the making of a header then matching it to an exhaust. Is it the exhaust port location. Very curious, and since I am not there yet, very interested. Thanks

I dont think that is has been very difficult, its just that in the USA there hasnt been much interest in the T4 conversion until recently, thats why none of the Header manufacturers have made any exhausts. It hasnt been cost effective Im sure. Remember, supply and demand go hand in hand. With Not much demand in the US until recently, thats why there has been no supply needed to be made by the US manufacturers.
In Europe, there are more companies that make them then just BAS, but that is because this conversion has been popular for over 20 years there!

what he said. even with what jake and A1 are taking on they are saying it will take about 20 systems to even make it worth while and that is with a mass production approach. truly custom and high quality approaches take you into the Tangerine approach and about $1500. then there are all the others that sit inbetween (LAP, BAS, etc).

That makes sense..
Like I metioned earlier, I am not at that point with my type IV.. I am somewhat familiar with the supply and demand issue as mentioned.. but how hard can it be to make a header and exhaust.. I ask this as a general question.. I would think the following applies... Getting a good think flange that would seal and mate well with the exhaust manifold, then making a 4-2-1 or 4-1 collector, to mate to a phat boy exhaust.. There are no bellmouth type flanges as seen on newer cars at the exhaust manifold.. so you have both cylinder exhausts ports merging near the exh port. I know I am over simplifying it, there are scavanging issues, tube sizes, and lengths that effect backpressure.. But I would be curious if a home made product would vary significately to a factor tuned product..I would think using measurements from an existing model, would generate adequate numbers.. How off am I? I know in our cars exhausts make a big difference, so how are people dealing with the exhaust issue.. (buying from the Europe) or grafting a type I type Exhaust and making it work? Not meant to be disrespectful, but instead looking for answers and a chance to get smart.. ALex

Sweet. I really don't want a type 1 style system but if the price is right then I'll get it. If they made a replica of the BAS system I would be all over it.
:agree:

What ever they come up with is fine with me, as long as it works and is priced right. They more we have to chose from the better the pricing will be all around. Type 4 conversion is gaining popularity but it is still a small market. That is why the stuff cost so much. If it was a Honda engine it would be cheap as hell,,,,,,,,,but it would still be cheezy Honda stuff.
