bit of an aside to this thread but still relative. I ve been watching some build a car for a purpose competition thing on discovery, monster garage or some thing and when they make a cage on that they dont use a single loop over the drivers head, or jst behind maybe. they weld two almost 45 degree angles together. not very good at explaining this. Would this not be weaker i always understood tht the strength of the hoop was in that it was all one piece.

Cheers Karl

From my standpoint, I would buy a roll bar or cage rather than build one. Autopower sells them for ~$500 shipped.

Is it possible to have useful cage that still allows easy access to the rear seats? It seems that all the retail ones basically block off the back.

Do you have a link for them?

Sure thing! Here is the design of the race roll bar- http://www.autopowerindustries.com/Roll_Bars.htm

If you want a cage later then you can add what they call a "U-Weld Front Cage Kit" or you can order a full cage- http://www.autopowerindustries.com/Roll_Cages.htm

Here is where you can order- http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant...ry_Code=AP9150

Just for clarification, Autopower roll bars and cages are made by I/O Port.

I recommend talking to the guys at I/O Port before you order because they only have the street roll bar listed on the site. I've talked to them before, and they are nice guys with plenty of answers. The Autopower bars are nice because you can choose which design you want, material, and they are SCCA legal.

I hope this helped.

Anyone have a Autopower cage in their Beetle? (libila?) I talked to the guys at I/O. They say the main hoop leans back ~10 degrees. I was hoping it ran parallel with the door post like the RLR. I just want to see some pix of a actual install before making a purchase...

I don't have one, yet. I found out about the cage through rsrnate over at shoptalkforums. I asked him if he could get pictures but he can't.

Mike, have you heard anything back from Nate on STF? I'm itching to see those pictures if he has them.
