901 grinding into 2nd

hi yes had box apart before, this one's actually a combination of two different boxes, all parts looked good and engaged smoothly, but i'm no expert on gearboxes, just trying to get it sorted. i've had all the shift rod's apart as i have the gearset out of an early 911 in a 914 case which ment i had to change intermedit plate for the thicker 914 one. i just want to know what bits in the gearbox are worn or not aligned correctly. gearbox does not whine like it did with the orignal 914 gearset. the gearshift does seam sloppy thou, no worse than before but not because of my shift linkage as has slack at the gearbox end. cheers
