You might want to read this thread about the Porsche/VW type 4 engines:

Here we are talking about the 1.7 and not the 2.0 which is a different animal, but the 1.7 was both used in the 914 and the 411/412. They are identical with heads/cam/cylinders ect...

Just don't lump all 914 type 4 engines together...They are closer to VW than you think. Tolerances are all the same...Very good!!!

BTW, the 924 engine was basically a VW designed inline water cooled 4 cylinder...not a flat opposed air cooled 4 cylinder
