Well I was thinking that the extra weight would be better for balancing out the crank and flywheel.

The German tuner that is going to balance my rotating assembly told me the same:if you're going to machine your own pulley(which I did)then make a steel one-the ass'y runs far smoother on the balancer.
For upright there are only aluminum ones that CSP sells that I know of.
