What oil for a porsche 911/01 5 speed gearbox?
What oil for a porsche 911/01 5 speed gearbox? From a 1970 911
I have been told NOT to use regular off the shelf gearbox oil, so what should I use? Cheers for now, Sam C

Any of the Porsche Boards will tell you to use Swepco 201 gear oil. Seams to me a miracle oil for porsches.

Hello-
Swepco 201 is a fabulous non-synthetic gear oil. Old schoolers love it to death :-). Redline is the best synthetic gear oil. If you aren't afraid of the word "synthetic," I'd use it :-). Take care,

Sam,
I'd use Swepco in it, the 901. 914 and 915 gearboxes hate synthetic gearbox oil as the syncro rings don't grip properly using that stuff. You get nasty grinding noises instead of smooth gear changes. MG
