havn't found much info on the brakelock, but the mico parking lock is used a bit on big rigs and trucks. BTW the mico thing runs about 300 bucks and the brakelock is $125.

what do you think?

i just put hidden switch on my msd box so unless you look really hard no starting ol' Lazarus. besides most theives dont want to work or they wouldnt be stealing.

wow.. this actually makes me wanna put some more $ into my car. I was to afraid of doing it before b/c of the high risk of theft in California for "nice" beetles..

yea short from lifting the car or cuting the brake line to move it onto a truck bed it shouldn't move

but i've been searching i think there are others out there. if anyone find other manufacturers of similar product please list them

You could always pull out a spark plug wire or a fuse, would be very difficult for thieves to find that in a short amount of time

you can drive a vw on only three cylinders, don't ask me how i know.

it would be much easier to pull the rotor. but since old vw arn't on the list of major theives, i assume that the guy willing to still a bug, well is a bug guy. It's probably one of the guys you see at the local swap meets. And these guys should know that many guys pull things like the coil wire, coil, spark plug wire, rotor caps, etc... and keep them handy.

if the guy gets a parking stall right next to your bug all he has to do is pop the deck lid and find what part is missing. Though very true that the thief will not want to take too long trying to find whats wrong. usually a plug wire is easy to replace and go.

the best way to stop or slow down the thief is to use a few things. i'll probably do the normal stuff but wanted a way to stop the car from rolling, this means the thief will need a way to move the car, like a tow truck. I'm hoping that most will not go the distance to use a flat bed.

not to mention the brakelock, the one with the key, seems easy to do. You just need to and a few brake lines and mount the thing. the only problem i see with this approach is the possiblity of leaks. the other one is used by big rigs and trailers so at least these are heavier so i hope the quality is better.

What about one of those removable steering wheels like the racers use? Kind of hard to drive without the steering wheel .

here's a different model a bit cheaper. It's the lever model.

To lock:
-turn lever on
-hit brakes

Unlock:
-turn lever off
-and go

The neat thing here is you can cable operate the lever or hide it under the hood or back seat. But in responce to the brake pressure concerns, you simply turn the device on. Don't press the brake. So as soon as the theif backs the car up and hits the brake once, it locks. Theif can't go forward and is stuck doing burn outs in the parking lot, thief panics and runs.

What do you think? No constant pressure and it won't go far.

Also the thing with kill switches is that you can still easily push ther car onto a flat bed.


With the brakes activated that makes it very hard.
