Introduction and Question regarding this forum
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. Danny Bradham was nice enough to let me know about it. He said that there might be some people here that would like some advice or help regarding some Porsche transaxles. This just happens to be my specialty. I am the sales manager here for Carquip, some of you might already know of us, as Tom Conway the owner has been in business for nearly 35 years now. We are a specialty house for new and used Porsche parts, but we are really putting a lot of our focus on Transaxles now. We have gearing for 901, 915, G50 5 and 6 speed, as well. I also have LSDs in stock. If anyone has a question, or need for something I hope that you will get in touch with me, I love my job here and would love to be of any help to anyone here. I should not be too hard to find as I will put my cell phone down here, as well. Warmest Regards to everyone. Erik Johnson Carquip Sales (303) 443-1343 ext 2 work (720) 980-9407 cell |

Forgot my question
I wanted to ask, are there any rules that I should be aware of regarding posts here? Is there a process for vendor support or am I good already?
Thanks for your help. Erik |

Hi
I don't know about rules but Its good if we can talk to someone about Porsche parts for use in VWs without feeling like poor German car driving trash. Steve

Precisely!
One of the big drawbacks to using various suppliers for me has been the 'attitude' some of them have when you ask questions and their tone changes when they find out what it is you're asking for/working on. I was ordering new seals for my 944T calipers so I could disassemble and paint them properly. When asked what year vehicle and I told them, the guy got rather indignant and starting mouthing off about return policy and how I would pay shipping if the parts were wrong and blah blah blah. I'm an adult, no idiot and would expect to be 'responsible' to some extent for what I'm doing. He treated me like I'm some criminal. Taint right I tell ya. |

Well, about Two years ago I started looking for 915 rebuilders (talked to many). All this time Carquip has been the best overall choice. They are respectful, understanding, and helpful. Don't let the prices scare you... after all, your dealing with Porsche engineering here. Would you bolt a $800 tranny to a $8000 motor? It's a "pay me now, or pay me later" kinda of deal (almost always cheaper doing it right the first time) I can't wait to get my rebuilt 915 back with this little piece of art spinning in there. Thank's Erik! Oh yeah, get your website back up please!

Hi
That parts to pretty to hide in a gearbox, you need a clear side plate so that you can show it off. Steve

Welcome Erik, glad to have you here!
Maybe you'd like to be in the Vendor section too? We aren't that big a market, but those who are serious know what is needed $ wise to get things done right. If there were sales or new offerings from your shop you could post there? Jason

Hi Erik,
Welcome to the best website on earth! I have a couple of questions... Regarding the 923 trans from the 912E: This is a popular choice because of the gear ratios suited to the type4 engine, and the release mechanism that fits easily. i did hear somewhere that it is weaker than the typical 915. True? What parts would help beef it up some more for drag-racing type starts? I heard that there is a later-style side cover that would help? What are my options for an LSD? Oh, and thanks for sharing the wisdom. A little experience is a very valuable thing to us trying to find our way. |
