High output coils

The T1 folks often use ignitions which among other things, up the voltage to around 60K. I haven't seen this much with the T4. Most guys seem to go with the Bosch or mallory distributor, and as far as I know, the stock coil. Am I right on this or am I missing something.

Stock coils are just fine.

High output coils and the voltage they claim are misleading. The coil will only produce enough voltage to jump the gap. Just because the mfg claims the coil will produce 60,000 volts does not mean the coil produces that much voltage all the time.

Some things that effect the voltage that a coil will produce are: plug gap, compression and A/F ratio.

Most engines will not make a coil produce 40,000 volts.....

I have a Jacobs bug pack on my T1. They say the computor "Taylors the spark" every zillosecond based on conditions in the combustion chamber. I really wonder what it does that doesn't happen naturally as Kadanie said.
Anyway I was just curious and still dont really have an answer as to why the jacobs, and MSD boxes seem so much more used on the T1 than the T4.

Thanks
Ron

Every coil on Earth is second to a Genuine Bosch, in my opinion.... There are just like chrome fanshrouds, not needed, and made to put money in some retailers/marketers pocket!

My Jacobs ignition actually uses the bosch or whatever coil you already have. The current than goes to a secondary coil that ups the voltage. On my stock engine it helped with starting and added a couple mpg. On my 2017 it does'nt seem to have any benifit that I can tell. The multiple spark discharge theory (MSD) doesn't make any sence to me. Once the mix is ignited, continuous spark is useless as I see it.

if I remember right the reason for multisparks is to help with the exhaust , multi sparks will burn off any of the excess gas from bad timeing and help keep the heads cooler because less exhaust material will flow out on the exhaust stroke also creating less blow by.
