Will this fit before I try?

I have a 74' Standard stock fenders 4" narrow beam. I have a set of 17x7 crome wheels in the basement that I would like to throw on the bug. I just measured the offset and I came up with 44mm. Before I go and redrill my drums and... I would like to know if it is worth the work..btw the whole car is on air. Thanks for any replies.

44mm is an unusal offset. nonetheless, i haven't worked out all of the math, but would think with a 4" narrowed beam you would probably have to space them out a little to clear the inside. easy enough to check though. just put the wheel up against the drum and check for clearance throughout the turn radius. good time to go to disc brakes if you are going to be considering changing bolt patterns anyway. MUCH safer and will add a little back to your track width if the clearance is needed.

another option is to get rims with a lower offset.
