Good showing for the bus...

Went to a local cruise-in last night in my bus. Mostly high dollar street rods and vintage muscle cars. The only other VW there was a young girl's mid 70's "rat look" bug (no top or windsheild, no fenders, primer black, scary mechanicals ). I pulled through and went to the far end away from the crowd... by the time I got out, the crowd was coming to me! Had a steady stream of folks all night, lots of positive comments, LOTS of questions... but the best part was nobody asked "why?" they just dug what I was trying to do! It felt good coming from folks with serious $ in their rides, most of them "pro built". There is a lot of satisfaction in being able to say I put together something really different with my limited skills in my own garage... the rest of you guys out there in the "construction phase", take heart, it is worth it when even just one person says "man, that is cool !"

Cool. It's nice to get your ride out for the first time and get some feedback.

I know what you mean (kinda), I went to a local wrecker / VW shop for some parts for my Rabbit fuel pump.
When I explained what I was doing the normally pretty reserved guys at the shop all got excited and made me promise to come show it when I got it running.
They even told me that I should drop by if I needed more parts and they'd help me find them..... like you said...pretty cool

Rob.

really cool,

people roll their eyes when they ask, "what are you using it on?"

ex. went to a reputable porsche shop (whaletail), looking for '86 turbo driveshafts. got the BIG cold shoulder from the parts guy when i told him i didn't have a core, he kept questioning why, then i told him about the '52 split
