drain plug TIV vs. T1

i'm not at home to check and need to know...are the TIV and T1 drain plugs the same size? and what size is it (diameter and pitch)?

i need to get a oil temp sender on order today for my TIV and forgot to check before leaving.

Hi Zen,
I just recently wanted to check it out also since I wanted to place a sender there to. (I better not tell you what sender that was...)
Thread is M12 x 1,5

Good luck,
Walter

You had to ask he?

Because its embarrasing to tell you that it was for a water sender unit :whoops:
I apperently need one because the EFI computer only 'understands' a sender unit with two wires and these units only come in M12x1,5. Whatever.

Take care,
Walter

Zen,
There are 3 different drain plug sizes in the various TIV engines. I do not remember what yours was......

mine is a M12. just dawned on me that my 911 gauge (oil temp and pressure) isn't marked measurements. i assume the gauge expects to see a sender with the right range. i assume a 300 degree will work. can anyone confirm?

just to update this info. it appears that 300 is not the right range. the one day i got to run my engine, the oil temp appeared fine (medium to medium-high since my gauge does not have numbers) for the whole trip, but Jake felt that when dumping the oil and feeling it that it was at 230 or better. not exactly scientific, but the man has done it a few times.

i spoke with egauges.com and although not difinitive, they felt that 250 was the right sender to be using. seeing as i broke off the tip of the sender during install this weekend and i have to replace it anyway now, i am going to try the 250 and do some kind of test to gauge (pun intended) how calibrated my 911 gauge is with that sender.

i don't know how the gauge works, but i am assuming it looks for a signal from nothing to high and the needle will move appropriately. so dropping to a 250 degree sender from a 300, should move my redline down to a cooler temp (hopefully around 220). anyone know how this works?

Most sensors, at least for motorcycles use a one wire sender. With the oil cool there is more resistance so the groung isn't as good and the needle won't move up. AAs the oil gets warmer the resistance of the sender drops allowing more voltage to pass to groung thus the needle swings up. If you could get the electrical resistance range for the 911 sender (for the year of your gauge) Maybe I could find a motorcycle sender that would work. Or maybe someone will know of a cheaper alternative...

so far no luck on a sender. egauges.com doesn't have a M12x1.5 at 250 degrees. and there are no bushings from M10 to M12 since it would be too thin. anyone know the oil relief size on a GA case TIV off hand? might be able to find one for that.

BG, still haven't checked on resistance. will do that today. that is a good idea.
