OK lurking here for a while, now I thought I'd do an Intro.

I'm going to be doing a 1303 street bug, it will be a GL/Rally bug.
done in the GL style- clean with performance upgrades, and a little bit sleeper. it will be used in some autoX, and some road rallys. mostly a street car.

it will be lowered, but only some, not slammed, the roads are rough here, and plans are to hand this over to my son in a couple of years when he starts driving.

Starting with a sold rust free body with nice clean interior, car is all stock at this point.

my plans are as follows, please give your feedback on my set up.

74 1303 sedan. Has 2 bolt struts

924S/944 spindles, rotors, calipers with the ball joint kit front, Stock M/C

Castor adjusting swaybar with bushings and camber bolts.

924S/944 arms (narrow) with brakes rear w/ parking brake cable adaptor, 944 rear sway bar (size TBD)

16x7 Porsche phone dial wheels ET53 with spacers to fit under stock fenders

from what I understand ET23 wheels will not fit under the stock fenders with this set up.

Progress will be slow as I gather parts, but I will use this as a build thread and post updates as I have them.

Hi

It sometimes helps if we know where in this big world you are located you may have another GL fan on your doorstep.

Hey I have the 16X7/8 wheels on my car, and the fronts fit nicely with the stock fenders with 205/50/16's on em'. The rears are another story though :P

Tell me more...

I plan on lowering the car about 2", I should get 1" from the 944 spindles and
the other inch from the front spring.

are you running the tapered front spring?

for the rear I was hoping to tuck 16X7's under the stock rear fender.
lower so as to be level with the front (runnig board parallel to the ground)

also interested in what size tire you are running.

BTW I'm starting with a beige car also.

I used 924S/944 complete front legs - it made life simpler - with 40mm lowered springs and new dampers. By ball joint kit do you mean the kersher bottom ball joint?
Where are you getting a caster adjusting sway bar?
I would try the rear without a sway bar at first and then make a decision whether you need it.
I always decide what tyres I need to run and then decide on the appropriate wheels for a comp car not the other way round.
The rear needs to be stiffened up and I would suggest 23.5mm (944) torsion bars initially or maybe 25.5mm (944 M030[?]) and/or use coil overs
A strut brace and a 5-bar Kafer Cup brace would also be desireable.

yes, the Kersher ball joints.
the sway bar is from topline ,http://www.toplineparts.com/products/swaybar.htm

I have a couple of sets of wheels from my 86 951, but they are ET23 and from what I have found searching, will not fit under stock fenders. so I'm on the lookout for some ET53 Phone Dials, although I like the looks of the early wheels much better. and I'm only looking to fit 16x7 front and rear so I may end up going with wider fenders.

I'll play with spring rates, but this is going to be a street car and the roads here are rough. so the car will be driveable, not too stiff and not too low.
rear sway bar will or willnot be included as needed.

Thanks for the input, always good to hear what others who have already done something have to say
