Question, how do you determine one 130x to the other....

i guess what I mean is, the term 1302, and 1303, or what ever, to me as it was described, is what they nicknamed german look VWs. If this is true, then what is 1302 and what is 1303?? like, is it super beetle vs non-super??

Both are Supers

1302 71-72 flat screen windshield
1303 73-79 curved screen windshield

In Europe the "Volkswagen" script on the decklid was replaced with 1302 or 1303 and they had certain models...

1302 S
1303 LS

...etc.

Your 70 is not a Superbug, they began in 71.

The main difference is the windshield. The 1303 has a big curved windshield and dash and the 1302 has the same windshield and dash as a Standard Bug.

The front suspension also changed in mid-73, the 1303 has its redesigned suspension with a negative roll radius, simular to the Porsche 944 and VW Golf.

I have a 1970 Superbug. October 1970. Eleven years to the month that I was born! All car manufacturers do that. Release the next year's model a couple months before the current year is over. So, technically, it is a 71, by VWAGs book, but if it was made in 1970, well then... I count my cars' years by the date on the badge in the door sill (If yours is still there. I was lucky enough that mine was...)

Yes there is that technical catch and the first Supers were manufacteured in 1970 but sold as a 1971.

The Automotive Industry standard is that in August it is sold as the next year model. Consequently, a car made in 8/70 would be a 1971 model.

That is why WipEout's is a 1971 and mine, made in 8/72 is a 1973.

Look under your front fender. If you see a strut, it's a Super.
