The Australian way

Could Steve Carter or other australians give me some advice on shortening superbeetles struts. I have this impression that this is a typical job in Australia.
I read Carters Struts & Stuff where he mentioned this conversion and I`ve been thinking that alternative ever since.
How much is the stut shortened and from which end?
Can you use the original inserts with them or maybe Golf`s instead?
Hope someone from down under reads this.
Justin

Hi Justin

My struts had about 4 inches taken out of them, it was removed below the spring seat. Im using smaller diameter springs with adjustable height, they have a threaded sleeve welded onto the strut so this gives some extra support.

If your using stock springs you can weld the stock spring seat back on over the join for added strenght.

You need to use shorter inserts, Golf etc, I used RX7 ones in mine.

Thanks Steve.
I`m planning to modify my struts to adjustable with an threaded sleeve also, but havent yet decided about the inserts.
I`m going to check if I can "lower" the stock inserts some way. There is a small extension in the lower end of the inserts, maybe shortening that could help bringing it down a bit?
