Stock Tranny

I have a '68 Ghia Vert with a stock tranny that is giving me problems. If I replace it at what point does the stock tranny need to be upgraded acounting for a bigger motor? The reason I ask is I want to upgraded the motor down the line. If I have to upgrade the tranny to do this I would like to do this now instead of later. Thanks

If you plan on upgrading, the engine and trans need t be built together.....The trans needs to be configured in conjunction with the engines powerband and peak torque.......Not engine size.
