porsche gearbox serial number help
hello, a friend of mine has chance of a cheap gearbox , but he does not know what type of box or what year it came from there are two numbers on the box 911-007000640 and 911-301-101-0R anybody know the year or type of gearbox of these codes and or a site to use for ref

Hi,
must be a 72 gearbox with pulled type clutch. Besides the number normally reflects a 4-speed box. Even if it´s a 5-speed will the pulled type clutch cause you some problems. Adjustment of another clutch lever (from a 901 or 914) is possible, but then the drill for the bushing on the back of the lever has to be closed and done new. Be also aware that the 901 or 911-types have short gears and are not so very good for big engines with good torque. I can only recommend them for type 1 engines, or smaller type 4, which revv high. cheers martin , i am running a 2275 type 1 motor with turbo so will be going to go over to porsche 915 box eventualy ,will give you a ring when i need some parts
