944 rear brakes on oval: help
Hi guys,
Finally getting round to rear 944 brake conversion on my oval. Everything seemed to be going okay, but when i put the rotor on i found that it didn't quite clear the caliper mount etc properly. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Below are some photos: Standard spacer: bolted up: rotor doesn;t clear: |

Never mind the rotor. I would be worried about the caliper mounts spooky!

im with him ^^ i havent seen the 944 setups up close but thats somewhat concerning with the welds & that extra bit hitting the rotor, id suggest taking that part, or the whole kit back to where it came from & ask for an explaination why its like that, thats assuming the backing plate/caliper bracket is/was a factory made part?

Hi
I agree that all looks very different to any 944 brake setup Ive seen before. Below is a 944 backing plate from and old car of mine, ignore the middle section, I had it altered to narrow my track. Steve

Hi, Apart from what has already been said, I note the rotors are cross drilled, are they turbo rotors, which are thicker than standard 944 ones. That caliper mount does look flimsy!

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. The calliper mounts have been extended (not by me) for using a different calliper.
The machining of the backing plate i guess is not correct such that they do not sit far enough back. |

the extra bit is the standard calliper mount. cylindrical extensions have been added (again, not by me) for non-standard calliper use.

If the extensions are just spacers they should not be threaded. If they are threaded then make sure the bolts you use go all the way into the original mounting holes. That would help some, but still not the safest.
