has anyone seen or done a narrowed super front susp?

and i mean moving the strut towers, not just using <73 components with 74 and up struts. i'm about to do this and was wondering if there's anything out there already. (yes, i'm serious)

Hi

This car had it done, they used late model struts and control arms as the arms are easily cut & shut.

Mirrors- they almost look like Vitaloni California's...but can't tell for sure.

The towers were elongated so that the strut tops could be moved in.

thanks again steve.
that's what i'm hoping to be able to do, just toward the top of the strut tower
but with a two inch per side narrow, i may have to bring in the lower part where it meets the trunk floor(even with the skinny kerscher struts)
i've already cut out some doner towers from a '74, so i may just maul mine and insert the others(either way it's going to take a while to drill out all the spot-welds on one or the other)

Hi

I saw a really old VW mag once and they showed how to lower a super beetle buy cuttung and moving the whole strut tower, when you weld your new one in might be able to weld it in a bit higher.

the ride height will fall under the strut's duties, my problem is that i want fuchs wheels and they don't have a large offset like the later model porche wheels. so in order to keep from widening the front fenders(i think the super looks kinda "narrow-assed" anyway) i need to narrow the suspension. whatever i do, i want it to look "factory", so i'm not going to use a lot of alien looking material, hence the donor strut towers. nonetheless, thanks for the replies. i was just hoping to get some ideas if anyone had done it before.

Hello

Sorry I saw this a while ago and forgot to reply.

I've fitted the early 944 brakes to my 1302 and use cookies (early offset) under standard guards.

I've got some photos here

Effectively I cut 25mm out of the 1303 arm and boxed it in, then i used a 1302 swaybar, which is narrower. I also used a spherical ball top strut mount and small diameter coil spring to bring the struts inwards.

Unfortunately I stuffed my measurements up a little so I don't have as much camber on the front as I'd like (1 degree max, even with the topline camber plus kit).

What I'd recommend is getting the camber plus kit, moving your strut tops inward as far as possible and seeing if you can get away without cutting the lower arms - just use the camber plus kit to bring them in-board a little.

What hubs are you using? The 944 ones have more positive camber than the beetle ones so watch out for this.

thanks jeremy. i've already narrowed a set of 1303 track arms and mounted them up with a 1302 swaybar like you did (but i did 3/4" inboard and 1 1/4" from the sway bar mount to ball joint area, 2" total per side) i've got 944 spindles and right now it's looks like the back end of a swing axle without an engine \ /
