Coils used with Mallory Distributor?

Is anyone using a Mallory Promaster with there Mallory Distributor? I know from John and Jake's advice thet the Blue Coil is no good for long. John sells a Mallory Round Coil for a good price. I have a chance to buy a Promaster at a good price and was wondering it would work OK, with a Balset (spelling ?) resistor of course.

Any 3.0 Ohm coil will work fine.

Blue, Black, or custom, no big deal.

I run a very strong ignition system with CDI, spiral core wires, and non-resistor plugs with an old Black Coil. Works fine.

I (and I'm sure Jake too) never said the blue coil won't last for long, what we said is that 2 out of 3 of the "blue coils" won't last for long. The Parts Whores selling stuff at bargain prices are selling "Blue Coils" that are not of a quality we consider "OK". IOW, our blue coils are fine, and are as good as the original one that came with the car, but most of the blue coils sold are sweatshop made and the quality is sure to leave you stranded shortly after installation.

no sweat, just clarifying. If I don't clear it up, I'll get hate mail from someone else that has a blue coil and has been running it for years and thinks I'm a jackass.

John is exactly right...The blue coils with a part number on the bottom and ARE NOT oil filled are the good ones.....They last just like the factory coils.....

The sweatshop coils say "Manufactured FOR Bosch, not "BY BOSCH"

John knows the difference, many parts houses are filled with clowns that read magazines and don't even own a 13mm wrench, let alone know how to twist one.
