951 calipers

I bought a set of '86 calipers and trailing arms, and I just wanted to check some stuff before I mount it up.

The calipers have a convenient arrow on the back indicating direction of travel; I assume this is when the car is moving forward, the rotor should move in the direction of the arrow? Does the 951 use leading or trailing calipers? The calipers with the larger pistons go in front right? Since our cars have significantly greater mass in the back, has anyone tried putting the front calipers in the rear for better force distribution? I'm planning on getting a proportioning valve to work out the distribution, but would using a 951 MC be helpful also?

The calipers I bought are sort of funky. I suppose cleaning everything off of them isn't as easy as hosing the calipers down with brake cleaner is it? Any thoughts to make them shiny and black again?
