Rear wheel drive speedo

Any suggestions on how a speedo cable could be driven by the rear axle? Perhaps 1:1 gearing from the output flange.

I'm running 215/40ZR17 upfront (596mm) and the correct ~636mm diameter at the rear using 225/45ZR17.

Any ideas?

Matt

Hi Matt,

You could always just get the speedo recalibrated for the new O.D.

Regards,

Andy

Hi

The new VDO speedos use an impulse from a sender, you could stick some magnets on your cv to produce an impulse for the speedo.

Can the speedo be recalibrated?

I would like to use my stock speedo, as anything else looks odd in the 1303 'hole.

I'll check the VDO website.

Thanks,

Anymore ideas?

Most speedometer shops can set up a small gearbox to change the ratio to correct for different tire sizes. Not a big deal, it just fits between the speedo and the cable.
