Question Lighten a 210mm flywheel ?

Hi All,

Did a search and can't find anything....

I am getting ready to install my 914 2.0 this weekend (just the long block). I've checked the endplay and have installed the correct shims and new seal.

I need to get the 210mm bus flywheel and PP I have resurfaced... some pitting and some rust. The fly already has the bearing mod.

Should I/ Can I lighten this flywheel ? what weight would be good ?

Also, do I need that flywheel 'crush' washer (washer with 5 holes on it that fits between the fly and the 5 bolts with serrated surface) ?

The application is stock 914 2.0 into '74 bug with 44 IDF's, Daily driver .... later converted to a 2270cc.

Thanks for any responses.

Sandeep

You can lighten it on the outside diameter, no special weight written down. Just take away from the outside to the screw threads, that's it.
Use everytime you rebuild a flywheel a new shim under the srews, it's for safety. If the flywheel was screwed on without this shim, resurface the surface where the screws sit, as it's mostly damaged through that!
