will these fit
been offered a set of genuine brand new in the box cup two's they all measure 8x17 with a 70mm offset. Will they fit under stock wings, the rear end has 944 alloy trailing arms fitted and it has modified 944 front hubs mounted on stock drum brake spindles. cheers for any help in advance.

if you're using the aluminium rear A-arms then the wheels will not fit under the stock beetle rear wings.
8" rims are actually 9" wide, so even with the huge offset I think they will stick stick out & the inside of the rim will touch the spring plates. You could always fit some slightly wider rear wings

If those are early al 944 Turbo arms it should fit. I saw 9" fitted under stock fender with a rear 944T setup. It has to be the early pre 87 trailing arm and you will still need a little spacer.
Try to find some more info on this plese and I will try to find the mag that had the car in it. The front will be a problem though.....8 on the front would mean a very small turning radius and a huge spacer. Perfect size would be Boxster rims.....7 in the front and 8.5 in the rear. The offset should be around 55 and 50 for the back. Alex |

cheers guys, i dont mind fitting wider rear wings.
so i idealy need to get a set of 7x17" all with a 50-55 offset, i want cup twos so what would be the best model to try and get a set off. |

Alex, the alloy arms came off a '85-'86 924S which used the same parts as a 944. did any of the boxsters come with cup twos on them or were they just on 911's. the front hubs also came of the same car and are mounted on '70 drum brake spindles.

I m running steel a-arms (1303) with an early 944 rear set up + 968 4 pot brembo's. With 17x7 et55 cups (original porsche wheels not the replica 7.5" et 52) the wheels just fit under my stock wings.

The trick is to keep the tire under the fender. You have got the same alloy trailing arms as me.
If you get a narrow tire....like a 215 it will stretch nicely and will stay under the stock fender. The rim might stick out a bit. Some actually pull out the stock fender by cutting or bending the inner lip of the fender. Like I said....I have mags here that have cars with 8.5s and 9s on the rear with that rear setup. I should borrow a rear stock trailing arm and compare it to the early alloy arms. Alex |

Remember when we test fitted my 18x10 et 47 to your trailing arms last year ? We took a measurement, and when I did my 944 NA ebake setup to my stock '74 trailing arms, the conversion ended up being 22mm wider, which was the same amount as your AL arms. So both conversions increase the track by 22mm, benefit of yours is lighter weight. All, Here's some calculations we can work with. These were measured when I did the conversion. Application is starting with irs beetle rear drums and ending with 944 NA ebrake conversion with 944 turbo rear disks (299x24mm) and 4 piston brembos. Stock beetle 15x4.5 wheels (et34, overall width = 5.375") have 4.03" of space behind the drum mounting face (backspacing) and 1.35" sitting out towards the fender from the drum mounting face. Now after converting to the early AL arms, or doing the 944 ebrake conversion, you increase the width per side by 22mm. Say you are using a 17x7 et 52mm. The overall width of this wheel is 8" so that breaks down into 6.05" backspacing and 1.95" towards the fender. With the increase in width per side of 22mm, the outside of the wheel ends up sitting (1.95" + 22mm/25.4mm per inch - 1.35") = 1.47" further towards the fender than a stock 15x4.5 wheel on drum brakes. There is definately 1.5" of clearance with the stock wheel so fitting the 17x7 et52 on early AL arms or converted IRS arms will work, as confirmed by HOT66. This assumes the tire sits flush with the outside of the wheel. Sandeep |
