901 Tranny

What is a resonable price for a 901?

What kinda of options are there for building them up. Like LSDs?

Can they handle 250hp?

Ryan, A good used 901 can be anywhere from $500-$1500. Rebuilds cost about $950+$1500 for LSD set at 40% lock-up for street. A 915 tranny is stronger than a 901 in stock form. I'm using a 915 in my project, install is about the same as 901 in a bug set-up. Check this site out www.rennsportsystems.com , and this site too www.motormeister.com
This should help understand more about the gearing and case changes over the years.

Later,

The Berg five speed kit starts at $1400, and trans must be completely torn down to install kit, as the main shaft needs to be extended. You will also need front mount kit, and shifter($$$). I looked at this kit ten years ago, and didn't have the cash to do it. I was going to get my type I tranny rebuilt and put the berg kit with it, but life got in the way .So, ten years later I'm in a position again to rebuild the bug, but have changed to a 915 tranny insted.
The Berg kit is a good kit, don't get me wrong, but for my new plans the 915 is a better choice for the price. The fabrication to put the 915 in is right up my alley . This is all just my opinion of course. Judging from your progress (STF euro look forum) you should have no trouble, no matter which way you go.

I sent the PM. I guess I'm going to start looking into some porsche transaxles. I would really love a 5 speed. So I guess its time to hit the books, If anyone has any more good links, it would be very helpful. I have to make my mind up soon, becuase I'm at the point on my car where this modifcation would have to be done now.
