Throwing in the towel
Well guys, I'm seriously thinking about throwing in the towel on my Sube conversion project.
Even though it is very close to being driveable, I simply do not have the time and drive to finish it. The thing is that it's probably going to be hard to find a buyer for the project. I had it running, but changed the cooling system, which I have not finished yet. So at this point I'd be interested in trading it for a running Manx style dune buggy.... any takers ? See: http://www.vanbran.com/bug/conversion_main.htm for pics. I can give more details on the status of the car for those interested. It's a 1970 standard with a '98 Subaru EJ25 motor (non turbo). It uses the stock ECU. It comes with a spare motor and a whack load of parts. Disks up front, drums in the back, all new. And sweet looking 15" rims with brand new tires. Rob. |

Say Wha!!
I understand, you just need a little fire under that @$$. I'm dragging my feet these days, and the hot summer days don't help. I prefer colder weather. I still don't have my engine fired. And crazy as it sounds, I'm more excited about the wiring than I am finishing the body, although I have been doing a lot of work on Tim's car for the past few months. Kinda hard to keep my fire going when I get burned out on someone else's car. Unless you're just going to give it up. Go to some shows, get some friends over. Sometimes working alone can make you drag too. Spend a couple of hours a week on it. Get it running again, that'll help to get the drive going. Drive it around the block a few times. Your car really inspired me. But, in the end. It's your choice. Which would you be more happy with in the end; A 1970 bug with a suby, or another vw that you bought?

I hope you're just kidding Rob, I've been following that project for a very long time and together with the conversion forum on aussieveedubbers been my greatest motivation to do my project and not give up wen things went wrong( which they have)

You might spend as much time and effort parting everything out as completing it. If you sell it whole, you'll lose quite a bundle. Just something to consider.

Finish strong! I agree, invire some friends over and have them rag on you for a few hours... Then tell them to F off! It WILL work.
Half the fun is people not really understanding what the heck you are doing

Allrighty then..... guess what I did this afternoon ???
Yup, worked on the bug ! I guess I have the 'bug' again (pun intended) Hooked up most of the waterworks.. hooked up the fuel pump and fuel lines. Now working on re-routing the return fuel line, then putting the tank back in... Fan wiring and shroud is next ! :agree: Rob. |

Yeah, a good break is sometimes all that's needed. I wanted to come up and help get the fire going, but plans change.
Glad to hear you back after it.
