901 grinding into 2nd
my 901 box will make an awfull grinding noise when going from 1st to 2nd when cold. when warm it works fine. whats the likely cause of this? also sometimes grinds a little when putting into first from stationary?

My guess is it could be worn sycnro's possibly..
Did you have the box apart before.. I think I remember something about you having problems... Do you remember if these were new or old? If the gears engage properly after they have gone in, then its probably not the poor shift fork alignment.. I assume you did not have to mess with those.. How many miles on the box, or components.. just trying to guage wear or mean time between rebuilds.. Could you give alittle more info? Take care Alex

If it grinds while you are stopped, it is your clutch adjustment. You have too much freeplay.

hi yes had box apart before, this one's actually a combination of two different boxes, all parts looked good and engaged smoothly, but i'm no expert on gearboxes, just trying to get it sorted. i've had all the shift rod's apart as i have the gearset out of an early 911 in a 914 case
