Are 17" Radars acceptable for GL?
Howdy All,
I'm well aware that Porsche wheels are THE wheel for GL, but life would be boring if we were all the same. I have a particular penchant for Radars like these ones: http://www.grwheels.com/index%20ENG.htm Now I know these look great on older Beetles, KGs, Kombis etc, but how do you think they'd look on a 1303? Let's leave PCD, bolt patterns, offset out of it for the moment and just talk style. Will I burn in some sort of GL purgatory for even considering it? Look forward to your thoughts. Cheers Craig |

I think it will be nice, maybe colour coding the rims.

i almost bought a set of those, but then i figured 'why?' when i could get a set of Porsche wheels AND brakes for less than it would cost for just the wheels.....

You won't find many here dictating any style for GL. It is generally accepted that "the look" is a reflection of the driver and the selected performance improvements they choose to make. An equally important question to the one you asked is, "what will those rims do to the performance of your car?"
Most GLs are using Porsche rims not so much for the look as for the quality build and relative ease of use since many go with Porsche brake systems on their cars as well.

I got Mercedes CLK rims on my '66 bus, they look perfect.
Radars seem like a bit of the easy answer, but that's just me talking. As long as you don't run the tired EMPI 5 spokes or something so 1980s you probably won't get lambasted too much. |

Not my taste of wheel and not what I associate with German Look, sorry! Do what you want, I don't buy in completely to any particular style but GL is certainly the closest for me!

The more I think about it, you risk becoming like the rest of the herd pretty soon. Have you considered other wide 5 wheels that not many others are running?

Meh, all of those are kind of done already. A set of staggered BTR wheels might do the trick.
