944S2/968 calipers on 1303

I have a little brake riddle I need to pick your collective brains about. I got some calipers from ebay last year. I didn't know what they where from, but they were cheap. Here they are:

I got some local Porsche specialists to try and ID them. They had some pads to fit them, and from them worked them out to be 944S2 / 968 calipers. I then got some disks for that car, but they don't fit. The disks are 28mm thick but are too thick for the calipers (only by a few mm or so) (a friend had to get them for me, hence why I didn't try them with the calipers before I bought). Turning the disks down would reduce them to below their recomended minimum size. I would still trust them, but would be easier to just get ones to fit. So anyone have any idea what these calipers might be? Could they be rears? They would need to fit late 944 hubs.

Chris

Some more info: The calipers don't have any Porsche part numbers on them, only brembo ones. If anyone could look them up maybe? The disks I have are the correct diameter as the pads fit them perfectly.

They look like '95-'98 993 rear calipers.

I just bought a full set for my Ghia. As for the disk, I'm not sure. I've got 944 rear caliper brackets, and rear hubs. I'm just going to go with the stock rear 993 disk. Also, the calipers I have Do fit the 944 brackets.

Hope that helps.

*I snapped a few pictures tonight of the 993 rear caliper and the 944 bracket together. I forgot to mention the bleeders and the crossover tube will have to be switched. Originaly the calipers were mounted in front of the axles.

Mikey, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Thanks for the info and pictures.. They do look very similar. Mine have the following number on them:
Code:
20.4673.00
on one half of each caliper and
Code:
20.4672.02
on the other half. Don't know if you have the same numbers on yours? Do those numbers mean anything to anyone?

If they were, the rotors I would need are 993 352 041 02 which are 290mm x 24mm in size, which certainly makes them the right width...

Is there any reason why I couldn't use rear discs for the front of a vehicle?

Lee, what's the differance bettween the two? Is it a differance from Radial to axial? if not I'm probably way off. The reason the calipers in question are axial mount is because they are the 993 REAR calipers. The 993 Front calipers are Radial mount.

The 996's calipers are radial mount front and rear.

On the back half of my left side caliper, it has the number 20.4672.00, and on the right caliper it has 20.4674.00. And I know these are 993 calipers. Then above there's a big 96.

My right front say 20.4564.00. It too has the big '96, could that be a year?
