Coil overs for supers
I want a set of coilovers for my supers front end.
I have the early style mounting with 3 bolts in a triangle pattern. What shall a get? i want the best for active track use and occasonaly street use. Kercher, remelle, redline, topline, home made??? Give me your ideas! |

Hello
what I now for sure (I have driven them but not for long distance and not in a circuit) is that the Kerschers (with one piece spring) is more comforty for street use and the car sits reletively high even in the low positions. The HR;s (from CSP lets say) with the two spring setup (normal+helper) are a lot stifer and a lot stifer also to the rebound (because of the bilsteins probably?) so I think they are made more for the circuit. Also the car sits even lower to their normal position (if you want to sit it more upwards you have to preload a lot which makes them even stiffer). As I said those are my remarks of a few kms ride in normal speed, hope that helps a little Friendly JIMP |

I dont think k/w make coilovers for the 3 bolt style strut.

Swap to the 2 bolt stuff. Its an easy swap, and gives you many more options.
I made my own struts..

I dont want to swap to the 2 bolt spindle because this is much weaker design, and often break when used for track and rally.
Also i cant make my own even if i have the skills, because i need some papers on the parts to get it road approoved. (tuv, decra or similar) |

I agree with Chris Percival to swap to the 2 bolt spindle. Swap to a 944T spindle and replace the leg. If you cut the leg just above the mounting part
its possible to use a 48x3mm pipe instead, realy hard to smash. The lower arm could also be reinfoced if needed. Do you realy need some kind of certificate in norway? Do the authority ask for it? // Anders |

And with all this modifications already fitted and approved , they check my car closely. Norway is the last CCCP republic you know.! (not really but it feels like it) But i still dont want to swap to 2bolt spindle because the 3bolt spindle is stronger. also the cast lower controll arms are stronger than the welded 2bolt style. I agree that the 944 spindle is good, but impossible to get approved. |

OK it must be hard to be a car builder in Norway. In Sweden we had also a lot of stupid rules. Between 1970 to 1982 you nedded to do a crash test with your car if you wanted to do some larger modifications. You nedded to build tow cars, one for the crash test and one you could use. In practical nobody execpt for the car manufacurers (Volvo, SAAB) could afford and have the energy to build atleast two car to get cars leagaly approved for road use.
Nowdays its much better, an organisation SFRO helps the builder to approve amatour and rebuilt cars. Try to find some manufacturer in german or england, whuíth could give you a certificate. Try to find some legs that fits with 60mm innerdiameter as those springs are cheaper and could be deliviered in a wide range of lengts and stiffness. // Anders |
