Trackdays in New Zealand

Hi all

Just a few pictures from some trackdays, my friend and I attended in our Beetles, mine is the white 1302s and his is the red 1969..

One of the trackdays was held at Taupo were they held the New Zealand round of the A1GP.

What an awesome track http://www.fcr.co.nz/track1.pdf the others have bean held at Manifield http://www.manfeild.co.nz/images/track.jpgin the Manawatu in the lower North Island.

At Taupo we had another Beetle join us this car is a 1303 with a full race 2.8L T4 with a 911 box.
The red Beetle has a Toyota 4Age in it and mine has a 2.5L N/A SOHC Subaru in it.

Hi

Wow. I'm only part way through watching the video, you and the Type 4 car seem to be on par.

The Type 4 powered 1303 is defiantly faster than mine, it’s got more HP, it’s lighter, has a 915 Porsche box with close ratio gear set and was on semi race rubber, looking at the video later I noticed how flat it was cornering compared to mine.

Down the straight it was opening up an 8 to 10 car length advantage, however the owner hasn’t had it long and it was his first real outing and is still learning the car.

It was a first time at that track for most of us on the day, so I guess it wouldn’t have helped him trying to learn a new track in a car he wasn’t use to.

The trackday organizers have really strict rules about passing and the like, so when I was following him I could not get close enough to pass with out breaking the passing and cornering rules, however when he let me through I was opening about a 7-10 second gap per lap. I don’t expect to be able to hold that sort of gap for long, once he gets use to the car I think it will be me who will be holding him up. And I don’t think it will be long before he’s on the pace.

It might be time I found some more horsepower, now where did I leave that money tree.

My mate was laping in the 2m12-15 second bracket and I was doing 2m02 second bracket with a best of 2m flat, the 03was some where in between us.

I’m waiting on some in car footage as I took someone for a ride who had a small handy cam, so with any luck I’ll have some more video to post shortly.
