Convert2.1 DJ engine to aircooled

I was thinking i could machine the case to fit aircooled type 1 Barrels .The bolt spacing appears the same ,someone has done this before surely? Is the case ally or magnesium?I havnt got an engine yet but this could be a good project .

Thanks

Mike

I really wanted to give this a go but those eccentric head studs are putting me off , also going back to 8mm studs .When i saw the eccentric head studs i wondered if the head could be slotted but i suppose they already tried that?? .
The plus for me would be an ally case and not to use a type 1 case as that was one reason i built a type 4 .No mention of tinware .If there is 12mm of jacket left on the case ,type 1 tins aint gonna fit so i am back in the realms of making tinware.
I'll do some more searching for completed engines .

Thanks

Or you can get -if you have to afford- the heads from gwd or JPM ready drilled for the wbx stud spacing and you're done

gwd-weiser.de

Hi

A friend of mine who is a machinist made it really simple to work out the head stud issue. He fitted a oversize solid insert in the factory head stud hole and then re-drilled it suit the heads he was using.

You could always keep the water cooling, I did it on my 1302 and it was pretty successful..
