It was quite a pleasure to drive trough the Frence and Swiss Alps, with the knowledge that I could "outbreak" the locals ...

KruKabs splitty
KK that is one MAD bus, just a shame it's a spitscreen & not a bay JK
How did you get on fitting the Creative front beam ? I'm getting one this weekend at Vanfest I'm a little worried about having to shorten the tie rods What spindles are you using? did you get a 'kit' to fit the front breaks? Rob. |

Ball joint.
On my '67 westfalia I used an front axle from Creative, and that axle uses everything from a later bay window. The axle (per side) 44mm smaller than original, but with the increased width of the adapters (mounted directly onto the 5x112 hub) you "loose" 25mm ...

Since june 2003 (when I bought the car) we have driven more then 50.000km with the bus.
No major changes, still the same 1776cc engine, 993/996 brakes and 1303S gearbox. Only things i changed are the removal of the bulkhead, different seats (out went the 914 seats, in a pair of Recaro's) and the biggest changes (on the outside) are the Rota 17" Fuchs style alloys. August 2009, 4200km roadtrip through 7 countries in just 17 days. 7,5x17 with 195/45x17 at the front and 9x17 with 235/40x17 at the rear.

Must say Alain, the 17" Fuchs do look wicked!
Pity they only make those in one off-set set (ET35/16): too low for me.. ET50/55 would have been nice. Matter of time? Last edited by Wally; September 28th 2009 at 04:42. |

With the 17" Rota's the bus runs even better then with the 16".
The tyres are a little bit higher/taller, so less rpm (or the same rpm, but a higher cruising speed ) for long trips. The 7,5 inch wide front wheels went on without any problems. The rears however are machined down from et16 to et20 (took 4mm off on the inside) and modified one rear drum by 2mm. The torsion tube at the rear is 4 á 5mm out of the center line, but a 1964 13window, a 1966 11 window and my 1966 crew cab have the same deviation .... Wally, the new 19" no option for you ??
